A Jacobs Radial Engine (R-755B2) is currently on display at the Sheppard Air Force Base Heritage Center. I was told it was used in the BT-13 to train mechanics here at Sheppard during WWII. Does anyone know if the BT-13 was ever fitted with a Jacobs radial?

Thanks guys!

BT-13 should have a P&W R-985 while a BT-15 should have a CW R-975.

The R-755B2 only has 275 HP while the others are over 400 HP.

Yes, I understand that, but the fact that I received is that the engine was only used for practice, and placed on the BT-13 for training use only.

The aircraft was never flown however, because of the use for training. Just needed to know if anyone knew anything about why they did this or maybe even pictures, for the historical purposes of it.

Thanks for the insight!

Hi Paul:

I don't know for sure, but probably due to a shortage of R-985s.
