I hear through rumor control that there is a B-25 about ready for its post restoration maiden flight in Woodstock GA. Does anybody know anything about this. I am told thats its a 2400 feet strip. I think this may be a project plane a friend of mine considered buying sometime back. If I remember right a guy up there had bought a bunch of pieces to put together one airplane, but I have heard little or none since. I don't know anything about takeoff length requirements for a 25, but that sounds a little tight for a first flight. Thought somebody could shead some light on this. :?:
Regards
Robbie

This is Jerry Yagen's??!! It's being put together down south.
When I heard from him last, he said that it was getting close.
You could get it off, but I wouldn't recommend landing there.

Does anyone have any details on the location of the Air Acres strip? I'm about 4 hours from Atlanta and could potentially check it out this weekend.

Here's some info on the airfield from Airnav.

http://www.airnav.com/airport/5GA4

Most very likely Jerry Yagens's B-25

Thanks for the replies fellers. A guy I work with has a good friend that lives at Air Acres, & thats where I heard about it. They just didn't have any details. (They are not really "Warbird" types) I will post any further info when I hear it on when this things is gonna fly. Word I got was a certain fellow thats been driving a P-38 around, that my boss dug out of a bunch of ice, is gonna be the pilot. Keep in mind this is all hearsay. I just think it is way cool that another B-25 will return to the sky.

I thought I had read about the Fighter Factory's B-25 doing engine run ups here, but it was on the FF site. Looks like the area migh fit the bill.

If you look on the Google Maps satellite photo of Air Acres, in front of the northern-most hangar on the west side of the field, there is a fairly large dark-colored aircraft which appears to be significantly larger than most of the other planes in sight in the photo. This may be the B-25 in question.

Having been to Air Acres several times over the years, I can see why the owner might want a pilot with the skill level of the aforementioned P-38 jockey to attempt the first flight.

Ok I am a BOZO. I should have known this.......Acording to The Fighter Factory's web page the aircraft in question is indeed their B-25J that has been undergoing restoration at Vintage Aircraft Inc.. This is an ex Walter Soplato aircraft that we have talked about before on this web site.

Yes it is Gerry's, and they are curently deciding on who will fly it and whether they can clear the trees at the end of the runway, which is a bit longer than the deck of the Hornet
