Okay, not my favorite kind of thread, but I had to comment. I took my oldest son to a model shop the other day, to get glue for building a dinosaur, and walking amongst the products of Williams, Hasegawa, Tamiya, or whoever, my juices got flowing. I wanted to jump into the L5 and go flying right then. As for my kid, over the last month, there's been so much whining about going to the airport- but he was all over the airplane models, ignoring even the dinosaur models that usually interest him. Since that trip, he's been digging out all of his airplane toys and asking me when we're going flying, and how many people fly a B17, etc. So I think there are subliminal messages in the Boxtop Art, and if we did away with Box Artists, we'd all be a better adjusted, more socially content group. Do we need a 12 step group? Can I get a hug? Comments?

I suffer fromt the same syndrome! Everytime I go into a model store I want to walk out with 2 or 3 kits, and I haven't even finished my first yet!

Best kind of therapy is a WIX group meet at an airshow or where ever. We all get together and assure each other we are "normal" and there is nothing to worry about.

I think the WIX Widows (& widowers in Cindy's case) are the only support group.

We just feed each other’s addiction, kind like AA meeting at the bar.

Well...

You could always buy a full sized flying airplane and restore that. Or build a full size kit plane.

After all - that's merely a larger version of the models you see in the store, right?

Among my myriad of hobbies, I'm restoring an 86 year old wooden sailboat.

The boat is in a shelter next to a pond where model sailboat enthusiasts race. They chide me for not getting into model sailing.

I simply tell them I AM into model sailing..it's just that my model is a trifle larger ;^)

If you go for the full size kit you might find your need for a 12 step group eliminated You might find yourself cured forever ;^)

But probably NOT better adjusted..... ;^)

In my flying model days, as a kid, I would get more fun out of designing/planning/building the models than I did flying them.

i've got over 30 high $$$ kits that have sat unbuilt since 1995. no time, QUALITY TIME that is in between running my business, home, b.s. bills, kid in college etc. still haven't put the decals on my beaufighter i completed in 1995 after my divorce. pretty sad when 1 can't find the time to do what you enjoy. cripes, i still have 4 unopened new aviation magazines that i haven't even cracked since mid june!!! maybe i'll break a leg.......

I have two 1 to 1 scale VW beetles that are sitting around waiting for me to slow down enough to spend some "Quality" time with. Maybe tomorrow!

I've got over 400 kits and it will take me at the current progression to about 20yrs after I die to finish them all!

I can sympathize with the best of ya. There is just something secure & cozy about an unfinished model. I had one for years hanging on the wall above my drafting board (before computers). It was a P-51. Our house burned down and the model was so smoke damaged that I let it go with the rest of the loses. But I know the feeling. Balsa wood, glue, tight silk
and clear dope. Nothing beats it.

my office at home is stuffed with antique aviation memorabilia. between running my business, running my house complete with majorly delinquent step son !!!! i don't even get a chance to enjoy my passion. i look at my at my stuff for as long as it takes me to empty my dehumidifier, & lock the door to keep the little s.o.b. from stealing it all & hocking it for dope money!!! a vasectomy is a wise investment as kids don't come with instructions & certainly no guarantees of being eagle scouts. my step kid has earned the opposite amount of merit badges at the detention center, cops, etc. sorry for venting.... not your guys problem, but there just seems to be so much less quality time for us over worked, over stressed, overburdened adults!!!! those that are aviation historians too is another category!!!! i've still got my sense of humor though!! best tom
