I just visited the post office today and noticed a new series of stamps called American Advancements in Aviation. Apparently, they have been available since late July, but I just noticed them now (so forgive me if this has already been discussed).

Of the 10 aircraft shown, I was surprised to see seven of them being warbirds: PBY, F6F, P-47, P-80, B-24, B-29, and the YB-49.

Out of curiosity, have the B-17 and P-51 already appeared on American stamps in the past (thus explaining their exclusion here)?

Anyway, they make for a nice set of stamps for warbird fans...

In 1996 the USPS issued a set of Classics American Aircraft stamps which did include the B-17 and the P-51. Other warbirds in that set were the B-10, the Corsair, the B-47, the Stearman, the P-38, the P-26, the DC-3 and the F4F Wildcat. Several civilian aircraft were represented also.

Thanks, you've inspired me to scan my stamp and make it my avatar. Gee, what are the odds, that I'd have the corsair....
