This might have been the one I saw at Chino a few years back.... it was in YANKS hangar covered with a tarp.

This auction makes me wonder about it's previous ownership. There was an MS 230 that was on the air show circuit for a number of years. Registered as N230EB, s/n 1076, it was claimed to be the ex-Blue Max movie plane, also once owned by GP. It wears a completely different scheme than the one shown on ebay. Anyone have earlier records on this?

Not sure how you can explain it but... when someone says this was THE one that flew in the movie Blue Max.... does that mean the TYPE or THE actual airframe!

When I was being given the tour at Yanks storage hangar the guy giving me the tour pulled the tarp back and said this was THE airplane from Blue Max. Anyway... guess we couldnt be sure unless we could view log books.

Dan, the fella offering the MS 230 on e-bay really makes id. difficult. It's
as if this "seller of model aircraft engines", has a buddy who is interested
in what kind of interest would be in his Morane at e-auction. If he was
REALLY trying to sell it, one would think the seller would provide detailed
photos, serial #, etc. With no ser.#, and the statements regarding coming
from a museum...I would still venture a guess that this bird MAY be THE
Blue Max machine. There are only so many of these birds flying
and only so many left existant.

Did Kermit sell #1049?
If it's Morane MS 230, ser.#1049. This would make it the ex-Blue Max
(Irish reg. EI-ARG), ex-Steven Grey(G-BJCL), ex-Kermit Weeks(N230MS)
which was damaged during the Hurricane Andrew hanger collapse. The
auction is over and I don't wanna register on E-Bay but I guess you could
just e-mail the seller and ask for the serial#? Dan, how close to "a few
years ago", can you attach a date to your viewing the 230 at Yanks?
Did the a/c appear damaged , refurbed or couldn't tell from the cover??

Roger, MS 230 ser#1076, Tom Leaver-owner, N230EB was de-registered
with the FAA in June 2005 and listed as exported to the UK. #1076 now
shows up on the CAA registry as of Sept/2005 as G-AVEB, owner still
Tom Leaver..if I'm reading the CAA regis. correctly...top of the list...

A question developed in looking this stuff up..were there 2 Moranes used
in The Blue Max? I have seen several references to Morane 230,
serial#1049(reserve aircraft) and Morane 230(reserve aircraft). Some
of the "Blue Max reference lists" appear to shorten the info which leads me
to believe they were derived. But no one questions or explains the term
(reserve aircraft). I'm doing my best to keep this stuff confusing!

I've learned to take with a grain of salt, the claims of some aircraft owners, until I can document it, such as by registrations, serial numbers, and of course logbooks and records. I've been burned before

Sure bdk, if you're feeling froggy..take a jump at it. I'd appreciate that,
just to satisfy my curiosity whether it is #1049 or ??, if it's not too much
trouble? I went ahead and registered on E-bay but there is a 3-day wait before I can send an e-mail to the vendor. Got my first spam 2 minutes
later! A visual is always better...
