The guns fell silent and a media type person declared, "It's all over, over here" Now I say, GOD BLESS OUR VETERANS!

my teenage boys wanted to call my 89 year old ww 2 army vet / rifle company commander dad to wish him a happy vets day. i was rather taken aback & gratified that i'm doing something right as a parent, & they have inherited some of their history appreciating dad's genes, while aknowledging my dad's contribution to his country. veterans day, while not a happy holiday by & large is nothing but a day off to most americans, especially our youth. same goes with memorial day...... nothing but a 3 day barbeque party. not because they are my boys, but my kids restored a little confidence in the gen x next generation of our country in my book. their innocent thoughtful gesture speaks volumes for me. on the other hand..... my boys can be snotty, lazy, disrespectful little sacks of sh*t too. they are not beaver & wally by no means. but again their gesture was worth sharing with my friends, who i'm sure have instilled alot of the same patriotic values in their own kids. best, tom
