This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hi Dave, Seems there should be more of this type found in Russia. I'd really like to see a nice complete underwater( fresh) example found. Also any word on the full size static one being built Down under? Thanks, Rob

Rob
Rumours of one complete in a river and one in a lake, also one stored along with some other types, only 'reliable' info is the one in the river to date.
Next likely to come up is the one off Rhodes, Greece, a photo of which appeared in the news pages of CW recently. Surprisingly good for a salt water wreck, having been at over 100m before being snagged.
The full size replica here at Omaka will be going in the new Aviation Heritage Center, hung in a dive position.

I had read a while ago that they where planning to hang an engine and get it to taxi. No the case anymore ?
Tks.

Michel, (correction) it is still possible that the replica will be fitted with an engine and will be able to taxi before going into the museum. Unfortunately it flipped over when hit by a gust of wind and suffered some damage a few years back.
Rob....never heard of the Stukas at the Polish base ( would like to see that picture!), and have several good friends who are part of the historic avaition scene there who don't know anything about it either.

Not current, but here it is in 2003 partially completed. As I understand it the canopy is being reworked and it will get a more spectacular paint scheme.

Dave, Thanks for the great info. Hey Rob, You didn't happen to save the pictures of the Stukas in Poland? Regards, Rob S

Never heard either of the Poland rumor.
As far as the one in the russian tundra is concerned, i remember the pic and the lengthy debate we had about it here at WIX. Consensus was that it was just a very poor scam.

A gun dealer approached me about 5 years ago about several Stuka airframes in eastern europe. He went overseas for arms deals and said he had seen them.
Maybe they are out there.

Guys
Forgot to answer regarding the 'wreck' on the tundra'. It was indeed a scam..and the piece in CW covering that particluar aircraft was dedicated to the con artists and the good guys in that part of the world. Peter Arnold came up with the original photo ( taken in the desert) that showed the wreck they had 'placed' on the tundra.
Rob. I have all issues of FP and the supposed Polish Stukas are not in them I can assure you.
Chuck..don't suppose he had any pics to back it up?
