thanks for posting the pics...the standout one for me personally is seeing the p40n..i just finished reading "A Flying Tigers Diary" by Charles R Bond...and there in your photos is "his" plane represented at the museum..(a good read by the way if anyone hasn't found it yet).

I believe the flying list might actually be less than whats said to be. I struck up a conversation with a volunteer who was nice enough to take me into hangar 4 which was closed to the public for a private party. It was 100 degrees outside and close to it in those hangars and my lens fogged up when I took those pictures before the private party started.

The P-51 I was told lost a water pump early in the year and burned the engine up and has yet to be fixed. The Yak and 109 don't fly anymore. The P-40 looks to be flown very little if at all. I was also told they only have 4 mechanics. If you look closely there is a Stearman in pieces behind the A-26 that's being rebuilt currently. I'm not exactly sure why but this museum also had a falling out with the CAF, anyone know why ?

We fly about 18 of the 50+ on display. We have 6 full time mechanics and a few volunteer mechanics, that help with the restorations and inspections.

I'm not aware of any falling out. The B-29 and B-24 moved to the VFM at Fort Worth because Cavanaugh needed the space in their south hangar because they didn't have enough room in the main hangars for al lthe collection.

Is there a chance to see the Corsair back up and flying before next year?

The P51 and Corsair are awaiting engines. That's something that is out of our control. Both are ready to fly, when we get the engine. As far as what flys. We can't fly them all. We have to decide which ones are wanted the most by airshows etc. With the exception of a few (P51, F4U), most shows are beginning to ask for the Vietnam era aircraft and are going away from WWII. The TBM, for example, used to fly all the time when the Bushs were in office. I haven't had a single request for it in more than 5 years. The Caribou has done more in the last year than in the years before combined. We can't afford to fly them, just for the fun of it anymore, with the high costs associated. Hope that answers speculation.

Hopefully that will change in a couple of years with the "75th" anniversary of everything. The 50th worked out just fine (In San /Antonio anyway) with one fine sponsor!

.............for example, this past OSH, I only flew the T-33 and A-1 in the shows. Conclude what you may...........
