She is a combat veteran? Put her back in her wartime colors representing the crews that flew her in combat.

KB839 lost her proper post war colours around 1965 when she retired and as far as I'm aware the scheme she wears is a nod to her own wartime service, along with the mockup turrets and H2S.

KB882 is the last Lancaster wearing the gorgeous colour scheme seen on KB839 above, and pretty much the last 10MR. Her combat history can be recognised by re-adding her mission tally on the nose; colours and turrets or not, you can't take away her heritage.

KB839 is in the process of being repainted back to wartime colours and configuration. It is actually being repainted in a 405 Squadron scheme, not its original 419 Squadron colour.
KB839 and KB882 are the only Canadian built Lancaster with actual wartime missions and are both still sitting outside.

There was some interest in 882 from Edmonton Alberta as well as Trenton. The prospect of a Lancaster and Halifax together at Trenton, seems to be the front runner at this point.
Restoring 882 back to Wartime configuration , would not be that easy. The general hope is that it stays in its original post war RCAF scheme and configuration. Of the 10 Victory built Lanc X left, it will soon be the only one painted that way.

When the Toronto Lancaster FM104 was taken off its plinth , the City of Toronto, who own it, looked at proposals to send it to Comox BC and retaining it in Toronto at the then called Toronto Aerospace Museum(TAM) , which is now the the Canadian Air and Space Museum (CASM),Which shouldn't be confused with the CANADA Air and Space Museum (CASM) in Ottawa ! FM104 stayed in Toronto in the end . Its restoration has stopped and the airframe is stored away, while CASM(TO)tries to re-establish itself at Pearson International Airport Toronto. Pearson was formally called Malton Airport, where all of the Canadian Lancasters ,430,( including passenger/mail planes)were built between 1943 and 1945.

Update from facebook...

Lancaster KB882 - Edmundston, NB, Canada - Members of the Society for the preservation of the Edmundston Lancaster met with Council last night. A recommendation was made to send our Lanc to a Canadian museum. Council has taken our recommendation under advisement. A public decision, should there be one, will be made at a regular Council meeting on March 17th.

So, that is the most updated status on the situation. The proposal has been made and we now must await the final decision on March 17th, 2015.

I trust that this will be satisfactory for everyone who is following the future of Lancaster Bomber KB882.

Some years ago (like, about 30 - yikes!!) I spoke with the man who flew 882 into Edmonston. His name was Peppi Digiacinto and it was the first and only time he'd ever flown a Lanc, though he had a fair bit of time driving Avro Yorks. He really liked it, thought it was quite a bit livelier than the York, and if I remember correctly he flew it in solo. Real nice guy. The outfit I worked for had a Turbo Beaver that he owned on lease.

Hummmmm....

I can only remember recently when the Windsor Lanc was moved down and trucked away to its current restoration position.

Those where amazing moments to witness.

Dave....sincerely congratulating you on your efforts and your pro activeness on saving her.

We need more of your type for the future..........

In all and and any cases just happy she will be getting the true attention she deserves.

Just hoping she will not end up stored like the Toronto Lanc!!!!!

Michel

They plan on making a ground runner out of this Lancaster, which I appreciate, but if their going through THAT much trouble of running her, couldn't they just go the extra hurdles and have a much more dynamic and popular Lancaster if it was flying?

Cost of return to flight and the running expenses thereof would most likely be a deciding factor in ground running only...

I think it would be easy to say, that the difference between ground runnable and a flyer, would be at least ten fold.
