Warbird Information Exchange

I am trying to do a little research on a P-47 pilot friend of mine but the information I have to start with is minimal. I interviewed thsi pilot for a paper I wrote in jr high so my memory of the details is fuzzy. what I do know:

He was in the 9th

He was based in france and most of their missions consisted of straffing marshalling yards.

Flew a P-47 named "Sex Express". he did not name the aircraft, it was named by the previous pilot who finished his tour and went home. he kept the name b/c he figured it was lucky if the prev. pilot made it through the war OK.

I saw a picture of the plane once and it was OD with (i believe) a yellow tail

can anyone help me out with details or a good place to start my info search? I have been looking all over the net but am having a hard time finding anything. I am trying to find some picture of his plane to give to him.

There was a "Sex Express" in the 36th FG 22nd FS coded 3T-C ,have a copy of the 22nd book printed just after the war.Made copy for myself and sent the original to a pilots nephew.
The pilot was killed after the war in a crash so he never knew him.
Very interested in this squadron.If you can remeber how the name was placed please let me know or anything else.
The 36 FG did have a yellow tail but changed it around from tail/rudder ,rudder only etc.
I think this might be the same but not 100% sure.
What was his name ?

I believe the name was written in big yellow block letters behind the cowl going down the side of the fus. Does this sound like the same plane to you? The pilots name is Ken Frederick. He is still alive so it seems the pilot you mentioned was probably the one who named the aircraft. If I can remember anything else I will be sure to let you know!

There was a Lt. K.R. Fredrick in the pilot section it says he was from Great Neck,Ny.
So I'm thinking he was from the 22 FS.Can you contact him?
Maybe he still remebers you.
The pilot I'm talking about was Capt. Fitts .I think he flew till the end ,Disbandment after the war so might not be the first pilot of "Sex Express"

While searching for online pictures and information of my Uncle's plane I came across this (old) thread. My Uncle is LT Kenneth R. Frederick who I am happy to say is alive and well and I will be having Thanksgiving dinner with him in about two weeks. He flew the P-47D named "Sex Express" that as mentioned, was not named by him. Pictures that I have will be posted later and if anybody has any questions for him, I can ask him directly.

Sorry for the late reply but I don't go on here to much any more. In fact my old sign in didn't work and I had to make a new name and password.
First of thanks for the reply. I'm always interested in the 22nd Fighter Squadron since getting the book on them.

This is a picture (of a picture) of my Uncle, Lt. Kenneth R. Frederick with his plane, "Sex Express".





This person is not my Uncle but probably either his Crew Chief (SSG Robert N. Hull) or Assistant Crew Chief (SGT W. Bogdan). I do not know for sure. I think my Uncle does but I forgot what he told me.

I had the book on the 22nd Fighter Squadron but gave it to a family member of one of the pilots.
I have been studying the 22nd FS off and on since then.

Can you ask your uncle if he remembers Major McClung or anything on his P-47D.
Have a friend interested in Major McClung. He was the 22nd's CO for a time.
