I know, I know...post it in "vintage".

But the US Army flew Vegas, so I'm posting here (Linked from Antique Airfield facebook...pics by Steve Lindrooth).

Does this one have a wooden or a metal fuselage?

It has the nice big original-design cowl and wheel spats as well (not currently fitted in the photos), allowing it to have all of the right classic Vega lines. Hoping it is ready for Oshkosh!

Anyone know why this one has the cabin door on the right side of the fuselage?
Most seemed to have it in the left...as does the recently restored metal example.

I don't know why the door was on that side, but it was that way on the original (which is stored at the facility.) The fuselage you see is a "new build," as the original was severely water damaged.

Remember, entry doors weren't standardized at that point in time. The Junkers Ju-52 and earl DC-3s had right side door entry.

DC-3's came with the door on either side, depending on which airline ordered it, and what their practice was.
Ditto the Vega, whichever side you wanted the door on, you got. On the wooden ones it was literally "which side do we cut a hole in?
