Well I am a Professor of Aviation and a Warbird guy at heart so I have to show off my students holding a WWII Swing Dance in the flight hangar. They had a dance lesson then swung away! It's neat to see these kids having fun the same way our real heroes did.

(We even have a Spit Pilot in the back row.)

There must be some great WWII Swing Dance groups out there…

Very cool. Did you actually have a big band, or was it records?

Almost all the saxophones I play are vintage American horns that would have been the type used by the various big bands. My "daily driver" tenor sax that I use every weekend is a 1945 Buescher "Big B" produced shortly after war's end. There's a great fairly young sax player who hails from Fairmont, Nick Henry. That guy can wail! I think he's up in Morgantown these days.

Also saw -- what's the story with the Vampire? Looks like it would be a great restoration project.

Yes we actually had a (pretty big) band. They played good-n-loud. The kids all took turns dancing with each other and other attendees that participated. We had a W.W.II Jeep an period clothing. Next year a P-51!

Yes the Vampire will rise. We have secured funding from NASA, AHP is involved and the Flight Department at Fairmont State.

*** Does anyone have Swing Dance photos of servicemen from the 1940's???

I know it's short notice, but in case if you or any of your student were interested, we will be having our 9th annual Hangar Dance next Saturday, the 14th. We are just a 2 hour drive North up 79/376 at the Beaver County airport.

While we don't have a P-51, we do have a lot other old aircraft.
