Parts Scam

Mon Feb 08, 2016 2:52 pm

I recently placed an ad on a well known on-line airplane marketplace looking for some BT-13 parts. I got a response back this weekend telling me to "send him a list and he'd see what he still had". He got back to me this morning with an email claiming that he had about four of the pieces from my list and that he'd fire them off to me for $450 plus shipping. At first it looked pretty good but then that little voice (the good one, not the one with the pitchfork) started talking to me so I ran his email address through Google. He's a Nigerian and calls himself "Jim Webb" but claims to be in Georgia. His email is jimweb709@gmail.com. Turns out that he's a fairly well known scam artist in antique car circles. The first hint was that his Paypal account wasn't "set up" yet so he wanted the money as a Money Gram. The next hint was he didn't speak "airplane" fluently. Beware chaps, beware! Ask lots of questions.

(And if you happen to have one, email this dickhead a virus!)

I'm pretty that's the same guy I previously mentioned who tried to tell me the C-47 hanging in a European museum was being parted out after I ran an ad on Barnstormers looking for an astrodome. Though his location was in Europe.

I just got one from a guy (I am offering hangar space for rent) saying that the articles I was selling, were attractive, and asking for more "informations" : )

A few years ago, I strung a scammer who wanted me to send him money -pretending he was a buddy of mine- because he was stuck in England, having lost passport and credit cards.

I wrote back, saying that my dad wanted to send him 10k right away, but he should simply go to the flat in London, and get the money out of the safe. I kept making stuff up, until I decided to write in Spanish, and suddenly my buddy could not write anything coherent in Spanish :drink3: :drink3: :drink3:

Long story short, kept sending him non-existent Fed-Ex, DHL and Western Union transaction numbers, until finally he realized that he was being duped.

Saludos.

I just got a robocall from the IRS saying to call them immediately about the money I owe. Yeah, right!

I got a robocall earlier this week from the IRS telling me that they've filed a lawsuit against me and that I need to call (some number) right away. Wow. Guess I'd better get right on that.
