This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Their "service record". Every bomb painted on the fuselage indicates an accomplished mission above enemy territory, a downed Japanese aircraft, or a sunk ship. The heavy bombers in the foreground have almost 100 successes. In spite of that, they met a sad end. A plumb bulldozer gave them a deadly wound. The second aircraft has a comical nose-art. A humorous "ID" the crew gave to it.

As luck would have it I found another selection of A-20 color profiles that may be of interest including an apparent Cargo mod ID's as a CA-20! Also to respond to "TBM Tony" about the markings on the P-70 Night Intruder there is a note on the non-all black markings.

Let me echo my appreciation for the SWPA A-20/P-70 pics and info; I'm in the midst of a pretty big modeling project involving a whole bunch of different aircraft which served in New Guinea, and will be doing both a 3rd BG A-20A and a P-70 as part of that effort. The posted article scan is fascinating- I was not aware that there were several P-70s which just received a black underside with some wraparound areas. That will make for an absolutely fantastic and interesting paint scheme! Thanks again!
Lynn (off to look for more OD/black P-70s, and see if I can pin down some serial numbers and assignments)

Can any of the great minds here tell me why the DB-7 has a different vertical stabilizer profile that the A-20?

Not being one of the "great minds", I hesitate to answer, but I think because the original DB-7 had much less powerful engines (R-1830 vs R-2600), and the later versions needed the added directional stability.

I'll take mediocre minds if the answer makes sense!

Too bad they never delivered any late A-20s in NMF. That would have looked cool, also if NMF A-20s had then been "two toned" with OD or Dark Green like many B-26s.
