The Texan picture shown below is painted as SNJ-5 GTMO No 39, "GTMO Baby". According to the FAA website, this is AT-6D 43839. However when I compare it to the AT-6D and SNJ-5 lists in the Warbird Registry, the serial number doesn't seem match the others for these models. The serial number might be consistant with an AT-6C. Is the FAA infor correct or does someone know more accurate info.

Thanks! You know, I didn't used to worry about these kind of details, but you guys have me trained now.

Is it possible you are talking about this one?

Model: North American SNJ-5 Texan
S/N: 043938 USN
C/N: 88-16220
C/R: N7980C
Owner: John K. Feldvary
History: AT-6D-NT [NA-88] (1943) 42-84439 USAAF, SNJ-5 043938 USN TOS (1943), N7980C (by 1963), to John K. Feldvary (2001/11)

I don't have the one you are describing in my list from last year's show.

Mike

Jeff, Using the registry, compare the manufacturer construction numbers with the US Navy serial numbers, those before and after. They do fall in line with this being built as an AT-6D that was transferred over to the USN as a SNJ-5. Also you can reference Joe Baughers website at: http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/thirdseries5.html which also shows it as such.
Your photo plane in question is N3258G it is:

Roger,

Thanks! I couldn't find the construction number. I only had the serial no and it didn't fall in line with those in the WIX Warbird Registry. I will look at the Baugher site in the future.

Mike,

Thanks for the effort. I did look at your fine list but didn't see a likely candidate. I saw this one taxi by on Sunday morning. I had to leave before the afternoon flying, perhaps this plane only made a brief appearance.

Jeff, I wasn't at the show on Sunday, but did photograph it on Saturday. I used the Warbirds Directory #4 for reference. I should have stated that above (oops).
