Very nice photos, but I came here just to see a Hurricane, and no dice. Are there any flying nowadays over there?

Yeah there's six with another couple close to the end of their restoration.

Got this photo of G-HURI on the day but its display was too far away to get any decent photos of it flying:

I know it's an owners "thing"...but I do wish they'd lose the checkerboard cowl on Sally B.
Very distracting.

I get the cowling part:

Quote:
...the black and yellow checkerboard pattern on the cowling of the starboard inner (no 3) engine, carried as a tribute to Elly Sallingboe's companion Ted White, whose Harvard aircraft had the same pattern on its cowling.

I'd rather see the plane repainted to something a bit more accurate for a G. Or return to this:

Seeing the "Memphis Belle" name and artwork on the Sally B reminds me that the NMUSAF asked "The Movie Memphis Belle" to change art and add "movie" to its name to apparently avoid confusion with the real MB.
(One wonders if it was just a friendly request or did they threaten legal action?).

I wonder if they've asked the Sally B group to make any changes?

I'm curious, what is the civilian/warbird airshow flying like nowadays in the UK since the Hawker Hunter crash into the motorway last year? Is the CAA allowing civilian aerobatics?

I don't believe there was anything "friendly" about that request. More the latter.

Andy

P.S. sorry for the threadjack.

Really excellent pics. Thanks for posting.

The display lines have been moved further back, although some acts were allowed to use their previous display lines if the CAA approved their enhanced risk assessment. No aerobatics over land is allowed in classic jets and the Hunters are still grounded.

Thanks for the great photos.
Several of the on ground ones underline to me how bad the vision forward must be from a tailwheeled big engined fighter.
The single seat Vampire looks compact and right, the two seater not so much.

Great photos, thanks. Would love to get over there someday. The Sea Fury in prototype colors looks nice. Could also do with a Meteor or Vampire. Ditto on the checkerboard cowling on the B-17 has grown tiring and needs to go.
