Vintage Planes of Fame Footage Including Ki-84, P-26

Fri Jan 19, 2018 10:20 am

I'd never seen this before and thought I'd share. Neat to see the Ki-84 flying. Looks like it used an inertial starter just like the P-26? Towards the end, a P-51 makes a gear up (halfway extended) landing; interesting thing is, looks like there wasn't even a prop strike! Enjoy!

Was that an AT-10 underneath the B-17 I saw!! Wow, I wonder what ever happened to that? I never knew Mr Maloney had one at one time.
As far as the mustang, he just q-tipped the prop! Should run quieter!! . Look closely at the 13:45 mark, see the tail bouncing up and down! Choppa choppa choppa!

It did strike the prop. Look closely, the prop tips are bent back.

Oh, that poor AT-10 - probably the last intact one in existence, until the NMUSAF put theirs together:

I've asked about it before, and nobody seems to know - unlike pretty much all of Ed Maloney's warbirds, this one seems to have slipped through the cracks. I wonder if any parts of it survived?

I wonder if that's the same cockpit assembly that sat outside a Texas restaurant for ages?

Interesting scenes on that film. Looks like the first part was shot at Ontario airport and the later stuff with the P-51 and Ki-84 and P-26 was at LAX on the south side. You can see the North American Aviation facilities and the old LAX terminal on Imperial in the background. Days have changed since you could run out on the runway at LAX to help a guy in a P-51.
