B-24 Information Needed

Mon May 08, 2006 9:55 pm

Looking to double verify the data on the B-24 located on my warbird site.

Anyone have any additional information on this one?

Thanks!

Paul,

My name is John Schmeltz, I am retired from 26 years of active duty Air Force. I retired in 2003. Anyway the reason for this contact is, I have been researching my Fathers B-24 Liberator. He was a gunner on this plane in WWII. He was shot down by ground flak on his first mission, Aug. 23, 1944 Vosendorf Oil Refinery sortie. Your site indicates that tail # 42-64458 was salvaged in April of '44. Much of the information I have obtained comes from www.450thbg.com . Could please verify if your information on tail # 42-64458 is correct? Is it possible that my Father (Joseph V. Schmeltz) was on a different plane that was shot down?

Thanks for your Help.

John
