This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Somebody did manage to "cobble" together a couple of Yak-55's though!
Definitely cool, but aesthetically looks funny with 4 mains that dont retract. Would probably require a complete redesign to have a standard conventional gear setup with only two mains.

I see now it has a jet engine mounted between the fuselages!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvTI1diNGeMI saw a video somewhere on Facebook that it has flown with the jet.

It looks to me like the propellers are moving fairly slowly. Does this even need the piston engines to fly?

"The Heinkel He 111 Z-1 was quite the strange idea."
You would have thought with all that work they would have also reversed the second nose bowl. Looks awkward. Why were those offset to begin with?

I'd say probably for better pilot visibility.
http://axis.classicwings.com/Luftwaffe/ ... ockpit.jpgMaking a custom "mirror image" nose, for the sake of symmetry, would kind of defeat the simplicity of making the most of what they already had.

I'm a bit surprised no one has mentioned the intended role for the HE 111Z Zwilling was as a glider tug for the very large Me 321 and Ju 322 gliders, the later not being a success. It would replace the three (3) Bf 110 fighters in a triple tow of one of the giant gliders or what was known as the Troika-schlepp arrangement, which had proved dangerous. If you have access to The Warplanes of the Third Reich by William Green, 1970, there are further details there, pages 303 - 306. Just FYI.

I imagine the roll rate is somewhat on the biblical scale...
