Like all of you, I love airplanes. Thus, the FAA's Washington DC office seems like a good place for me to work after I graduate from law school. But is it really a good fit? Specifically, what is the internal culture like - e.g. is it a pleasant place to work?

Do any of you have any first-hand experience of what it's like to work for the FAA? Or, do you know anyone who does, who would be willing to share their experiences with me?

Similarly, if you have any other advice, or can suggest other jobs that combine aviation and law, please let me know.

And of course, feel free to crack a lawyer joke

What kind of law degree do you have?

Hi there, and Welcome,

Not having worked FOR the FAA, but having a lot of experiance working WITH them and the Inspectors in the field that they have, I can speak to it from two distinct standpoints. One, for the most part the FAA Inspectors are pretty helpful and most of them that I know, come from the "dirty end" of aviation, meaning the ranks of the maintenance workforce. Secondly, those that are and have spent most of their career's in the administrative role at the FAA seem, at least to me anyway, become a part of the Great Governmental Beaurocracy, in that having layer upon layer upon layer of paperwork is a grind to those who take care of the US Aviation Fleet.

As a career path....it depands on what you want and what type of Law you have trained for. The FAA is just another typical Government entity. And you can make it as good as you want to in your own niche.

Again, the people make it work...the red tape folks....well...I'll leave that for you to decide

The old joke goes something like this...and please pardon me the pun:

or the best one (at least from an A&P's standpoint)

"Hi...I'm from the FAA and I'm here to help you"
