Airsho day today in Reykjavik and quite a day. So many Icelanders are interested in their Aviation history and so many brought pictures and logbooks from relatives who flew the Loftlieder PBY and the PBY-6A TG-RAM. Thank you all! It was a really neat small show, and the PBY went last, in the traditional star of the show time slot. An awesome day. The sole resident big pro on the island C-47/Dc-3 TF-NPK was there looking for support as the new hope for a preservation movement there. Stampe TF-OLD was another very cute vintage aircraft and something we don’t see too much. Also an Icelandair 757 Cargo conversion put on large demo aircraft that was unusual and cool.
The Catalina flew around the circuit during the demo and it was so special to see faint remains of wartime dispersal, the seaplane ramp used by the Catalinas and also many Quonset huts and other wartime buildings that still remain in the town. They are leaving us at a faster and faster rate, but much evidence of that titanic struggle of the past is still present. Great day.
