A college student and I were just talking about the Jura MJ100 Spitfire replicas a couple of days ago. He dreams of scrounging parts and building up a P-40 someday. Of course , by the time he’s fifty, they’ll be $10 million USD.
One thought is for someone to buy the rights to the plans and Re-engineer them so that instead of requiring 12,000 man hours to complete, it only requires, say 2,000 hours plus a large financial outlay. There have to be many ways to simplif, speed up, the plans.

Actually, I think the future - 30 years from now - will be different from that. That time will be well past Peak Oil; while there will be gasoline, that will be surely will too expensive and likely unavailable for oil airplane engines; there may well be much less ownership of "flyers". The nostalgia for WWII (aircraft or anything else) will likely be much less than now. While P-40s may well still be available - maybe even more plentiful due to fewer museums - they may cost less money than now, factoring in for inflation.
