We are getting our C-45 ready to come home and the FAA site has this on the registration search page "This aircraft's registration status may not be suitable for operation" I tried to call them, but like all govt agencies, they close early for the holiday. They also show it as a turbo prop. check for yourself. look up N6365T. Any thoughts ?

I think(someone please correct me if I'm wrong) the "This aircraft's registration status may not be suitable for operation" message is part of the FAA's efforts to keep their records up to date.

I have to say listing a C-45 as a turbo prop doesn't surprise me in the least. Here are some other good ones,

P-38J 44-23314 N138AM is listed as a multi-engine turbo shaft.
N147CS and N148CS are listed as P-38's, they are P-3B AEW aircraft.
Fairey Fireflys WD833 and WB518 are listed as baloons!

Maybe the owner of record never responded to FAA letters regarding the registration status? I think the FAA is trying to clear out a lot of long ago scrapped airplanes from the database and this is the first step.

Thing is, it shows the plane as sale reported, and has the correct info on the sale, BUT, it still has the note on it. You would think that if there was action on the registration, it would show that it was active.

Matt,

In my experience with one of my projects, (PT-17 Stearman N69763), Brandon is absolutely correct. The previous owner probably didn't respond to the FAA's occasional requests for status updates, and so they have sort of "quarantined" the registration on this one. As Dan and Brandon mentioned, the FAA is trying to clean up a lot of these questionable registrations, since a lot of times, the planes may not even be in existance anymore.

The "may not be suitable" statement will go away once they have gone through your paperwork and made sure everything is in order and issue you an aircraft registartion card.

Just be patient, they seem to move very slowly nowadays......
