All, Issue 56 is just out.......main articles are as follows:

SWAMP GHOST SAVED

One of the most significant WW2 aircraft recoveries in recent times took place in May when the largely intact B-17E, known as ‘Swamp Ghost,’ was rescued by a multi national team from its resting place of 64 years. We had been liaising with recovery coordinator and regular CW contributor, Rob Greinert for a long time over this aircraft, and he explains how the recovery came together.

ARTHUR’S P-40

It has become an almost unwritten rule that P-40s being restored to fly in New Zealand will be completed and test flown just in time to debut at the major Easter air show, either Wanaka or Omaka. This year was no exception with Allan Arthur’s stunning P-40N-1 flying just days before heading down to thrill the crowds at Wanaka, marked in its very attractive 112 Sq. colours. This article describes the rebuild and is complimented with air to airs over the stunning Marlborough Coast.

AVENGER OVER OZ

A TBM fire bomber has under gone a major transformation into wartime configuration and has recently taken to the air in Australia. Formerly ‘Tanker 21’ with Forest Products Ltd, the aircraft was one of several retired and offered up for sale, being purchased by Australian businessman Steve Searle. What followed was a meticulous restoration and this is described in the article - the end result is captured on its first flight and is testament to the dedication of those involved.

FULL FURY V

Continuing a look at all known surviving Fury / Sea Furies we take a look at another bunch that calls the USA home. Several of these were at one time with David Tallichet and have since disappeared from public view; consequently some mystery surrounds their whereabouts and even their identities.

BUTCHER BIRD 4

In this, the penultimate part of our survey of the Fw 190 survivors, we take a look at the aircraft that are mostly new build, but utilize original parts, along with some of the larger relics. There is also an overview of the airframes known to be extant today.

TIPSY SURVIVORS

Following on from our previous edition in which the story of the attractive and sweet flying Tipsy 2-Seat Trainers was told, this issue takes an illustrated look at the surviving aircraft, and a tale of one example that very nearly didn’t!
