Originally there was an overhead escape hatch in the cockpit. Many times these were sealed or skinned over to stop leaks and/or for installation of radio control heads.

Sometimes the fwd baggage door ends up getting skinned over as well. That makes for a nice warm cockpit to give tours in at shows!

all the dc-3s that i have seen, the upper escape hatch was there. Seems like it would be a bit far back for radios being installed there. But it is foreward of the starlight dome and if I remember right, the starlight is just at the wall that is just aft of the meat door.

Neat to see one with the Desert air filters. Is there not a AD for the removal of them here in the states............something about them catching fire if the engine backfires through the carb?????
