I saw this airplane a couple of years ago at Grayson County Airport near Sherman, Texas, along with some other vintage jets (Sabres, MiGs, etc). Definitely a nice looking Sabre. It would indeed be great to see it flying some day. Dang... if only I had a whole bunch of spare cash, a hangar, a crew of A&P mechanics, a pilot's license, jet training...

Nice bird. Me wanteee!

I saw some pictures on here over time of more Dog Sabres, they were derelict. I think one was beside a building. One was at Juniors place in Texas I think. There was another on a stick at a VFW up north.

That and the Canadian T33 fest, and T33's in general, all over the place.

I need a hangar bad. If I had a place to store stuff, I could get it and get back to it later.

(Note to self, buy a friggin hangar next year, or at least a couple of acres of desert)

This bird belongs to Randy Ball - or I should say to "Fighterjets Inc". Randy has been working on getting this baby back into the air for quite a while now - he also has an incredible MIG-17 and does a heck of an air show performance with it. - check out fighterjets.com for more info.

This reminds me...Does anyone else remember a contest Revell had circa 1964-65 where the winner got an F-86 (probably an "L" since it had a radar nose) for their school?

Wonder where it went?

I remember seeing an ad for it in my brother's "Boys Life" magazine.

This airplane is still sitting outside over at the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Dallas Love Field.

Nice looking airframe.

It's a shame that Randy is selling this bird. A lot of us have been waiting a long time to see a "dog nose" Sabre get airborne on the show circuit, and Randy's operation is definitely one of the few jet-oriented groups that could be counted on for regular appearances. I really hope the plane goes to an ambitious pilot, and doesn't get caught up in yet another static museum or gate guard situation.

Boy howdy! Randy's MiG-17 air show routine is SH*T HOT! Got to see him perform in Fort Worth this year. Great stuff!

I am sorry to see that Randy Ball's "Fighter Jets" is selling the F-86L Sabre. I know that their website has been saying for some time that it was under restoration with a projected first flight sometime in "late 2006."

I was beginning to suspect that this project was having stumbling blocks. I remember the late Wyatt Fuller (may he rest in peace) telling me a year or so back that bringing a "Dog Sabre" back to flying status was much more problematic than the other mostly Canadian built Sabres that are flying today. Apparently the engine and related fuel systems are diffficult problems.

I see that the current bid is up to $59,600 with the Reserve not met as of yet, so hopefully a serious buyer will be found that may be able to complete the project.

It would be terrific to see one of these beauties back in the air again after more than 40 years (last ANG F-86Ls retired in 1965 - although a few F-86D, K or L "Sabre Dogs" may have flown a little later than that in foreign countries such a Thailand, Japan or somewhere in Europe).
