Bruce Morehouse and his P-51s

Sun Nov 26, 2006 9:17 pm

My old friend John Kerr sent me some photos from a visit to Bruce Morehouse's place in San Antonio back in June 1978. At the time Bruce had a pair of 51s at his place (44-14826 and 44-73343). Later Bruce also bought the wreck of Vern Peterson's N51VP which crashed in TX in 1989.

Many thanks to John for letting me post these here.

TJ, I grew up in San Antonio and I can't tell you how many times I drove around looking for this guy. I finally saw one of them @ Grayson County in the jigs getting rebuilt.

Thanks,

Lynn

Well Lynn, I seem to remember John saying that it wasn't all that easy to get access to photograph the planes.

A friend of mine who was involved in the purchase of one of the P-51s mentioned that one of the top US golfer's dad was Morehouse's wingman back in Korea!

One of our fellow forumites asked me the other day about the restoration of the old Loening racer #2 N5482V. Apparently someone had published that this a/c had been restored to fly around 1987, and then crashed. I have found no evidence that Morehouse finished this plane at all. Can anyone confirm whether or not this happened?

What's the latest on these P-51's, are they still being restored or stored?

Hi guys,
N5428V is in our shop undergoing a complete restoration. Wings are about ready to go back together. Fuselage is in the fixture waiting to be riveted up. May have some pix on our website soon thanks to Dan Linn!

Must have been, back when I was a Romex Rocket and wired a lot of houses in the area, I would drive around and asked a lot about them.
