Thanks Mike- I scored one of each on ebay last month.
I've heard there is a new survivor book catalinas I need to look for... 8)

Not exactly new and the publisher (Airlife) went under a few years back, but still available used......

...and were bought by Crowood in 2003. Old Airlife titles may yet (re-)appear from Crowood.

I can recommend David Legg's Catalina book. I purchased this when it came out about 4 yrs. ago, or so. Complete and well researched. All the Cats I have flown/fly are there. First rate. It would be similar in scope to Scott Thompsons' B-17 book Final Cut. Both of which are superior to Pearcy's Survivor books, the first of which I bought in the mid 80's while flying 3's. Of course, Arthur Pearcy had many more airframes to chase down. Its amazing, the herculean effort and time investment these individuals put forth to produce these books. Those of us that fly these airplanes really appreciate the history we learn from reading them. Another great book I picked up a year ago is a B-29 development book by William Wolf - excellent!

Maybe so James, all very well in theory, but the Catalina book's showing as out of print on their site, so if you want a copy, you go for a used one!

Surely David Legg's superb Airlife book "Consolidated PBY Catalina - The Peacetime Record" should be in warbird enthusiasts list of survivor books. His book covers much more than this but includes every survivor by geographical zone Worldwide with extensive details of their histories and excellent illustrations.

The operative word was 'may'... ;) The point I was making was that the title is currently owned by a publisher, rather than being in limbo. However, if you want one now, rather than 'maybe someday', get it secondhand, as you say.
