I just love this shot. Helmet, goggles, A-2 jacket, silk scarf and the fighter pilot pose in his P-40E Warhawk.
I swear you can hear the guy screaming "I'm the King of the World!!" 8)

No King is too low a rank.

He's shouting "I'm a fighter pilot!"

What do the intakes at the wing root of a P-40 supply air to?

I imagine that the caption to this one is similar, Jack.

Jack,
Do you have a similar shot of Gordon Austin of the 325th Checkertails sitting in his Lighthouse Louie? That's on of my favorites too. I also like the one you posted earlier of Twerp. Mike

Well he's either saying that or he's saying "this is my good side". 8)

I dunno...I see him gazing off into the distance and thinking, "someday I'll be a Mustang pilot!"

Was anybody saying that in the aleutians in 1942???
If he was saying anything other than what I said it would be
"I hope this this thing warms up fast cause I'm freezing my ass off!"

"I'm the KING of the WORLD!!"

Later....tragically....his P-40 hit an unseen cloud at night and began losing coolant....two hours later, it was found firmly embedded in Terra Firma....the pilot barely having time to issue the 'CQD' distress call before bailing out....rumor is he is now dating Kate Winslet....

I do believe Larson was later killed but doubt if he knew Kate Winslet :?

Jack, you're a little slow with the humor tonight....

Hint: Ever heard of an airplane losing coolant after "hitting" a cloud?? :)
