Warbird Information Exchange

I am the proud new owner of Stinson L-5G 45-35050 N63372! Cowtown Aerocrafters in Justin, TX is going to restore this bird and if all goes well it should be flying this time next year! It was built in 1946 and has 20 hours of military time which was ferrying it from the factory in Wayne MI to the surplus dealer in L.A. It was flow until 1958 and has been disassembled ever since. It has 394 TTAF! Just thought I'd share my excitement... I know it's a little early, but does anyone have any suggestions for its paint scheme?

Seriously, I was always partial to that OD/ white tail version. And isn't there at least one other L5 in the Dallas area? Bet he's got a ton of background...You already know this

Good going Taylor. I'm planning on completing mine out as part of the 1st Air Commandos, which my uncle flew for. Not a real flashy paint job, but somewhat colorful.

Guinea Short Lines and European theater w/invasion stripes have all been way overdone in my view. Hope you will pick something different from those.

You could always paint it up like an OY-1/2 in either USMC, USN or Coast Gaurd colors. Ours is going to be painted in USMC colors and I believe there are only a very few done up this way.

I'm quite fond of my OY-1 and the L-5's are wonderful aircraft. The weather has been nice here so I've been putting quite a few hours on her lately, 11.9 this month alone.

As for paint scheme, choose something not done before (or at least not over done). Something that would be true to an L-5G, or at least an AAF ambulance model. Be different!

Although this scheme rocks!

Thank you all! I know it may not be original to the "G" but I love the 2nd Air Commando Group, 155th Liaison Sq.'s Paint scheme, with the lightning bolts and exclamation mark. Any restoration tips or L-5 stories are more than welcome
