Bob Jens...is yes probably the closest one to flying now....however, I do not think it will fly before Jerry Y's.

I know when I visited Mr Jens he told me it was being restored on a time & money allow schedule.

It will however be the last "original" flyng mosquito with the "original" wood work

Is this French Mossie real? I can't see it on any survivors list. Or it it a replica - if real what is the serial?

That reminds me. I need to pay Bob a visit sometime. He's Mossie's only a 20 minute drive from my house.

If I can I'll give you all an update and maybe pictures.

Paul, it's a replica - I've done a quick translation for better understanding:

" A group of 10 retired people are actively reconstructing a flying Mosquito replica in Luçon. The project which has been started in 1996 with 3 friends initially is now coming to fruition. Nearly 23000 hours have been dedicated to the project so far. The fuselage, wings, the electrical system, molds and wiring have been hand made apart the motors. An estimated total of 1500 hours are still needed to get the Mosquito flying and a 1st flight may take place in 2009 at Fontenay-le-Comte airfield with Jack Krine at the controls. The Mosquito will be then flown at airshows. "

NB: there is no mention in the article about the aircraft scale (3/4 or 1/1) or the engines they'll used.

From what I recently learned (yesterday), they are looking for Merlins.

I'm really leaning towards it being a full size replica. Comparing it with pictures of full size Mosquitos the dimensions look just about right.

Now the fact that they don't have any Merlins yet makes me consider that their restoration may take longer rather than shorter. Depending if they can find Merlins in good (Running) condition or if they can only get their hands on some requiring reconditioning, then it could add substantial time to the project.

I do have to say though, it's a very big task to build a Mossie nearly from scratch. I wish them all the best. How exciting it will be when there's a hand full of Mosquitos pleasing the crowds at airshows.

if you look at the picture you can tell that it is a full size replica, unless they are making frenchman in a smaller 3/4 munchkin scale.

Actually, I consider it is a 3/4 or 80% scale, the fuselage diameter, wing cord and distance from fuselage to narcelle all look smaller than expected?

Great project though, I wonder if it is fractional scale if it is a two seater or single seater?
