Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just posting what I stumbled upon
this morning.

According to the FAA Accident "short list":

1943 Bell P39 N6968, serial 219597 ran off the end of the runway
and hit a fence at Fredericksburg, Texas. Substantial damage
is reported but fortunately, no injuries. This occurred on 4/18/05.

Bummer.... dont like it when we read "substantial damage" but good to hear no injuries. What kind of brakes are on the 39? Same as a 63?

My thoughts exactly, Michael...thankfully the pilot is ok.

One can't help but feel a bit bad for the PIC in these situations. I know how awful I would feel if such a rare aircraft was damaged with me at the wheel.

And now the worst part...the high probability of enduring another series of "if-only-the-CAF-operated-their-aircraft-properly" rants.

I agree and hope there's no CAF bashing over this.
But, has the saying goes..........if it wasn't for bad luck
these boys wouldn't have much luck at all. Except in this
case no one was hurt.

With the pilot being ok, hopeful that is correct, Lets hope that the damage is over reported to the a/c. She is a beatiful plane! I wish more where flying around.

Lets really hope there is a bit of confusion here and nothing over ran the runway.

Aircraft can be rebuilt (most of the time). Pilots not so much so. Good to hear the pilot is ok.

The english language is a wonderful thing. Open to many interpretations.

The FAA says accident = you say tomato
The CAF says incident = I say toe mah toe

The FAA says substantial damage = it's broken and it don't fly no more.

The CAF says minor damage = it's broken and it don't fly no more, BUT we can fix it without selling our first born and the pilots ok.

End result: Their both right.

Please forgive me for injecting a bit of levity into the disscussion. Now where's the photos?

Hmm, I read the top line as zero fatalities and the next line as 1 fatality. What am I missing here?

I assume the zero is right as everyone seems so jubilant.
