a-26 question

Hi guys, merry X-mas to all! How many A-26's are still out there flying and static? How much do you think you can get one for which is a restoration job?

I don't know the exact number, but there are fewer of those flying than B-25's, so I would guess somewhere around 30 to 40. As far as price - it all depends. There are two now for sale at Courtesy, one is going for $ 175,000, and the other for $ 475,000. The biggest drawback of operating these beasts is their 2 fuel hungry R-2800's. If you have a lot of money, it's not a concern, of course, but if you don't, like a lot of A-26 owners do, it makes a big difference.

Thanks for the update! God i'd love to own a a-26 for 175,000. Thats a small morage if you think about it. Get rid of the kids, house and wife and it's doable. As for the gas and insurance.......

N401Y has been up for sale a considerable number of years. It was listed for 90K, and that included a "large" amount of spares. I don't know how much work would be required to maker her ferriable, and the spares are located quite a ways from where she sits.

does anybody have one where you can just take it away because nobody whats it or restore it? i'd take that one with no questions asked

And so would 10,000 other warbird enthusiasts.

BTW, there are deals like that where the airplanes are free for the taking. That has happened in recent years and several airplanes have been scrapped because there were no takers. The catch is that the aircraft are in total disrepair, have extensive corrosion, can never fly again, and you must pay to have it transported. For extremely large planes, nobody has $ 100,000 to move a 4 engine behemoth. So, you see, even when it's free, it really isn't.

I totally see your point. But if you get a buddy of yours who's a trucker with a flat bed it could work with this plane. Take the engines out, take the wings off and strap it all down to be transported to my back yard!
