One of the participating Douglas C-47s has just departed for her transatlantic journey from Connecticut on her way to participate in the D-Day 70th Anniversary celebrations taking place in and over Normandy on June 6th.

Is the plan to bring it back? I can't see why - it has a UK owner and the operators are UK-based too.

Thats my fear. If the C-47 doesn't come back, thats pretty much it for any warbirds operating out of the state. A couple of trainers here and there, but thats about it. Probably can count them on both hands. We weren't even able to host a show with this 47 attending! Or gathering the local D-Day C-47s together! (Airpower, NWM, Jack Dak).

The closest I ever got to her was seeing her waaaay down the tarmac here in Stratford. We need less Yachts and more Warbirds operating out of Connecticut.

The owner is from the UK, and what I have heard over the last two years is that he eventually wanted to bring it over to the UK. That doesn't mean it's gonna stay there now, just that was going to happen at some point.

FYI, I spoke with Nick today. They returned to Oxford, CT late Tuesday night with a fuel consumption problem. Changed a carb and headed out again Wednesday (May 7th) at 6:30 am. made it to Presque Isle. Headed out this morning at 6:12 am on the way to Goose bay. Plan is one more stop in Greenland, then Keflavik, Iceland, and Scotland. Plan is to spend the summer in the UK then return in the Fall if weather cooperates.

Reading the history on her, she was based in 1944 only 7 miles away from me at USAAF station 467, RAF Aldermaston
When in the UK this time on the 6th June she will be 40 miles away so will have to get down and see her and the other 9+ C-47's.
