If you could own a DC-3...

I thought this would be fun to see what everyone thought. If you could own a DC-3 in full airline configuration what airline or markings would you do it up in? Why? And would you remove the airline look and return it back to WWII configuration or leave it alone?

Why, in AVIATECA markings, of course! : )

These markings were in use during the 1950s and 60s, and were later on replaced by the very colorful red/orange/yellow markings, but the 1950s-60s markings were typical for the era.

The photo belongs to my collection, author unknown.

Radio call TG-AKA; location very well known to me, but will leave it out to thwart certain troll who likes to steal photos and then publish them as his own.

If I could own a DC-3, I would steal Old 728 from the Henry Ford Museum.

I think it's a shame that it's painted up as a NWA DC-3, even though it never flew with them.

Or I'd get another DC-3 and paint it up as Old 728 in North Central markings.

I love seeing restored wartime C47's etc in any vintage colours from camoflauge to sliver and white, and any era WW2 to Vietnam, but if I had a passenger seat and door "DC-3" my most favourite colour scheme would be either the very early American Airlines polished scheme of the first DC-3's or the contemporary and more colourful scheme of Estern Airlines "Great Silver Fleet" as per the NASM example.

Does anyone know if any DC-3/ C-47s in airline interior configuration have WWII markings on the out side. I can only think of one, the C-47 that was donated to the group at Geneso just this past summer or spring 2005. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've heard Old 728 isn't a DC-3 anyone would want. She *was* in flying condition, but "The Henry Ford" let her rot for quite a while before moving her indoors.

The Cavanaugh C47 is military outside. but inside we have reclining seats (with lots of leg room), air conditioning, a sound system, a PA system, and a restroom at the rear, all of which are much appreciated on long flights from Texas to airshows such as Oshkosh and Sun n Fun.

Only one problem. Doug still won't put on the air stewardess uniform and serve us food and drinks. It's strictly self-catering!

OK, the man said DC-3, no C-41A,C-47s, or C-53s were mentioned.

He also said FULL airline interior. Bucket seats down the sides don't count !

Taking a page from Rob, who knows who delivered the Smithsonian DC-3 to the Museum ? I mean actually in the left seat ?
