As of today, 72% of the available Photo Tour/Pit slots for Saturday are sold.

Cheers,

Great work, Tom! We are now under 6 months to Thunder Over Michigan 2011.

What is the status of the MAAM P2V-7 Neptune? I heard somewhere that it is not flying but the MAAM'S website shown it available for air shows. Since Neptunes were based here in the Detroit area I think it would be a great addition.

It would be terrific to have a Neptune at Thunder Over Michigan and not only because they may have been based in the Detroit area at one time, but because it is a great vintage Naval warbird that in one version or another flew from the forties to well into the seventies.

Unfortunately the MAAM SP-2H/P2V-7 Nepturne has not flown for several years and will probably not be in the air again anytime soon. The last couple of years the MAAM has listed the Neptune as a "performer" at their WWII Weekend Air Show in Reading, PA, but this is misleading and a month or so ago somebody associated with the show confirmed over on Air Show Buzz that the Neptune is a static display only and will not be flying in the show.

If there is another flying Neptune (even an air tanker in civilian markings) somewhere that could make it to Thunder in July that would be a heck of an addition to the show.

I think it has been over 10 years sense the MAAM P2V has flown. I'd love to see it take to the air again but I was told it would a huge undertaking (I assume that is correct but I always leave room for correction from what I'm told by the people giving tours of the aircraft).

But it would be very cool to see one of the fire bombers come.

Tim

More than half of the Friday Taxiway and Sunday Photo Tour/Pit passes are gone.

A limited number of the Saturday Photo Tour/Pit passes remain.

It's going to be another sell-out well in advance of the show.

Don't delay and be disappointed!

Cheers.

Tom Walsh.

Kevin,

I've just read the news on the TRAWING5 contribution to ToM2011 on asb.tv (but cannot log in there anymore, probably because I refuse to throw my privacy out of the window by joining Twitter or Facebook). Excellent news, thanks for convincing them!

Cheers,

Training Air Wing (TAW) Five from Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field, Florida is coming to Thunder Over Michigan (TOM) this year with 6 aircraft!

From VT-3 "Red Knights" an all yellow T-6B Texan II (1930 - 1950) paint scheme, and a standard orange and white T-6B.

From HT-28 "Helions" a TH-57C Sea Ranger painted as one of the earliest Naval aircraft.

From VT-6 "Shooters" a T-34C Mentor painted in pre-war USCG markings, a T-34C painted in pre-war USMC markings and a standard orange and white T-34C.

Cheers,

Tom Walsh.

Well done Mikey!

An outstanding addition!!

There is a little known connection between the Fw 190A-8 and the USN over Normandy, France on D-Day.

More on that later.

Cheers,

Tom Walsh.
