I thought that seeing two Connies together at Marana was cool, but there are three complete examples at Pina. If I had visited the month before, I would have seen a fourth before it was scraped. Three intact Connies in one place is still very respectable.

I finished taking my pictures at Pima and it took me nearly the full four hours just stopping for regular water breaks. It was now time to get back on the road. Tucson was the most southerly point on this trip and I was now turning north to Coolidge to visit International Air Response...

This place is interesting, it is quite a stash of H-19s...

These airframes were in a chain linked fenced compound. There were high voltage power lines running nearby. To top that off there were lightning storms in the area. So might agree that it was not a good idea to be hanging out there for very long. As a result I didn’t have the time to take pictures at my leisure, so I just got what pictures and ran out of there. I only got a few more. I don’t have any Ids for the following so please help if you can.

I had one last stop before getting to my hotel in Tempe. I found my way to Chandler...

That was it for the day. I checked into my hotel and got cleaned up to go out for dinner. I was meeting Ryan Keogh and Michael Haradon for dinner. Ryan and I had met in person before but it had been a few years. Neither of us had met Michael, who also follows WIX. WIX is a really interesting community, and when we get together in person it is like we are best old friends reuniting for the first time in many years. Ryan, Michael and myself chewed the fat for hours and eventually only left the restaurant when the staff stopped to eat. It was a great time and I look forward to doing it again some time.

The next leg would take me on a tour of the greater Pheonix area and then off to Flagstaff. I already have the pictures ready to upload so hopefully it won't take me as long as before to get to them.

Stay tuned!

Mike

I lived in Glendale Az. back in 1995-96, and from your pictures it doesn't look like most of these planes have moved since then. I seem to recall them sitting in pretty much the same place. I'll try to locate my pictures from back then and see. Anyways thanks for the pictures. Everybody I know here in Ohio always wants to know why I want to go back to visit Arizona, these are why. :drink3:

All of the Lauridsen owned aircraft pictured are fairly recent transplants to Buckeye and would not have been there, or even owned by him, back in the mid 90's I'm afraid.

These may not be the same aircraft, but when I was out there, there was some of these types. :drink3:

Mike,

Question about the DC-7 photo posted above. The N-number listed in the post belonged to a DC-7C of T&G Aviation, in Chandler , AZ, which was broken up in 2008. Also the old Delta Air Lines markings would make this a DC-7 or a DC-7B. Delta did not operate the DC-7C. Did you get your info off the airframe, or from another source?

Walt

Walt you are correct - the DC-7 pictured above is DC-7B N4887C

N90804 is a DC-7C and is named African Queen - that should still be there, but only as a nose
