Just to set the record straight... I was involved in the PBY deal at HQ. The city of Harlingen wanted it moved. I was there when it moved. I never saw or heard of the letter you are refering to.
The letter was presented well before the aircraft move and therefore you probably never heard of it.

If he was the "Sole Sponsor" then why did he let the PBY come to such disrepair? As a sponsor he was responsible for it's care.
Mike tried to save this aircraft long before the CAF left Harlingen. But since HQ had disbanded the wing it was assigned to (Pacific Wing), HQ took control of the aircraft and let it sit on the ramp. Mike was trying to support the aircraft and deal with HQ long distance from his home in Australia. It seems to me that whether or not an aircraft is being sponsored, if it is falling to the elements, that HQ should honor it's original goal of "keep and preserve" and take care of it.

You state in the P82 thread, " The facts"... Since you are not on the Board of Directors of the CAF, ( I am). And since we are under a gag order to not discuss the p82 until the courts decide, and since you haven't been in any of the meetings with council, your "facts" are opinion. The facts are known only to those involved.
What I have previously stated were facts and/or "opinions" current until 3-4 years ago.

I, being completely involved in the CAF for close to 30 years, at just about every level including serving on the board, which is not a paid position and costs each of us a great deal of time and expense, get a little tired of those who want to turn thier opinion into facts. If you want facts, attend a board meeting, they"re open to any member. You can be part of the problem or the solution.
I attened all the airshows in Harlingen from 1973 until they moved and then attended Midland shows until probably 2001. I had been a very active member from 1987 until about 2002. Trust me, I understand the "time and expense" involved in being an active member. There used to be a day in the CAF when a person who had used just about every penny they have just to get to the events and fundraisers, volunteer their time and efforts, pay for their own hotel rooms, cars, and food, just to wipe oil, work a PX, or volunteer to work a ticket booth would be appreciated and not taken for granted. In the recent years, it has seemed that unless you have money to plop down to sponsor an aircraft, or you have the money to attend all the events, you are not really a "part of the group". You are more like a peon.

Get involved or keep your opinions to yourself. It's because of constant complants from people like you that made me make the descision not to run for the board again. It wears you out after awhile.
I used to be involved. And it is people like you who make me not want to be a member any longer. I have better things to do with my money than get kicked in the a**. There are other organizations out there that could use support and would be happy to have whatever funds I can provide.
