I'm not surprised about the corrosion. On one of the
wing center sections in my posession, the attach angles
have to be seen to be believed (completely exfoliated, they've
turned into shredded wheat!). Fortunately, upon visual inspection,
my other example is very clean. I'm going to apply for an AMOC to
see if I can inspect the attach angles while they're off of the airframe
(since I'm drilling everything apart / rebuilding it from the ground-up
anyway). With the angles off, seems to me radiographic inspection
would be the way to go.
Anyway, on the corroded attach angles thing, when I think
about it, it's a half-way decent place for corrosion to live (dissimilar
metals, plus an aerodynamic fairing hiding sub-structure which
also tends to collect/harbor moisture!).
