Some of these questions make me question the mechanical aptitude of the author ;)

Like the one about "50 PSI of force" on the hydraulic piston

VESSBOT,
When you are able to walk from Honolulu to San Francisco, give us a call willya?
In my experience there are only two types who never make mistakes, those who never attempt anything and liars-everyone else makes mistakes,
that's also reffered to as 'learning' the key is to make the mistake, figure out how you made the mistake, figure out how avoid repeating that mistake, and tomorrow-go make a new mistake-if you continue to make the same mistake, then you should go reapply @ Burgerdoodle for your old job. I've never met anyone who had been clobbered with the knowledge stick

If anyone here knows how to get the FAA to take action against a mechanic, that is not accident related, please let me know.

I have tried on several occasions, even documented with photographs, but the local FSDO refused to do anything.

What is really sad is the gutless Human Resources pukes that advise management not to fire a screwup until there is a mountain of evidence against him. They'll allow him to jeopardize people's lives on a daily basis.

How about a small airliner that recently had a major inspection done and signed off. But, 90% of the panels were still painted shut from a new paint job months prior to the inspection.

Hell, I couldn't even get U.S.Customs to come out for two drug-running aircraft. Seems most of the Fed employees want to do nothing but sit on their fat a$$e$ all day.

Ober, as for the "alliens" , I guess either you missed my attempt at humor or it did not soar to the planets as I meant which was like martians.
As for a foreigner being called president, I am pretty sure the law requires them to be a US born citizen. But if you know otherwise, share it. Which one do you believe was born elsewhere and where do you think they were born? Any evidence like a birth certificate or just a hunch?

Although I was trying to be funny about the President (net saying Obabma wasn't born in Hawaii) I am really concerned about the foreigners in our flight schools and mechanic schools. I guess we will never learn, it's like 9/11 never happened (or was a govt. conspiracy) The almighty dollar is more important than the security of our country.

Aw come on now, did I claim to be perfect, or to be immune to mistakes? No. But when you see a silly mistake like this in a test question (i.e. an authoritative source that's supposed to test someone else's aptitude for something) I think it's fair game for a silly cheapshot, which is all my comment was. If the tables were turned I'd be the first one to chastise myself.

The difference between force and pressure is pretty fundamental to hydraulic theory, wouldn't you agree?

Friends? :partyman:

well thanks for your vote of confidence - as a "foreigner" living in "your" country it makes me so happy to see there is no prejudice :?

I hate to think of all those Americans living in Europe plotting again us there as well...

When I did my A & P testing it was done cram style. Taught a review to the test, took the General. Then cram and repeat. I took the testing in Riverside Calif and several Airforce types were in the class as March AFB was close. It was great to hear "Firing order of a 9 cly Radial? What is a radial?" Of course I was not the most proficient with turbines.
It was cool as Steve Hinton signed me off to go to the FSDO to get the authorization to take the tests.
Seems like that was ages ago now.

Not that I ever did it but there is a tool to check the spongeness of the seat cuhsions.. First you throw all the cusions out with pee stains. Then you put the others under what looks like a arbor press and step on a foot triger and the round disk the size of someones azz comes down and the a gauge reads between a set of pramaters. if not it is discarded. Then the discarded seat cushion become sgreat material to set flight controls or delicate items on.

This has been a great thread, but that's definitely the most ~surprising~ post.

Since we hit the planet the old folks have been complaining the young folks don't show 'em respect and can't do things as good as we did in the olden days, as has been noted with ref to Plato. But...

..One for our Mech trainers - is actual mechanical aptitude / interest and skills on the decline as I keep hearing? My impression is that mechanical and dexterity toy sales are declining; kids aren't allowed scissors; and there's no kudos in being able to 'fix' stuff because you just throw it away and get a new one - are the brains in the hands on the way out?

Comments?
