Day 7 – Harry Bonsall Park

Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:55 am

The CAF was my last stop at Falcon Field, but we are not done with Phoenix yet! I got back on the road and headed west past Tempe to get to Harry Bonsall Park in Glendale…

…a couple of the residents enjoying the park indicated the city spent about $40,000 on the recent repaint. A little expensive I think, but it does look great.

Day 7 – Glendale OV-1s

Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:55 am

I honestly don’t know what to call this place other than it looks like a private residence…

…despite the solid fence around the place I managed to get a few shots over the gate.

Day 7 – Glendale Airport

Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:56 am

Before leaving Glendale I had one more stop to make, so I made my way to the airport to find part of the Lauridsen collection parked on the ramp…

I left Glendale and headed north to the Deer Valley airport to look for a replica JN-4 displayed in front of a business park…

Day 7 – Deer Valley: RS Warbirds

Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:57 am

Almost directly across the street I found RS Warbirds…

…their aircraft are of course parked on the ramp, but I didn’t have any problems getting pictures over or through the fence.

Day 7 – Deer Valley: Airport Terminal

Thu Jan 19, 2012 7:57 am

Just down the street is the airport terminal…

Before going into the terminal I stopped to snap this picture…

I then proceeded in through the terminal to find stairs outside at the back up to the observation deck. There I met occasional WIX contributor Chris Kennedy. It was nice to hang out for a while with Chris in the shade and snap pics of a few movements on the ramp.

Day 7 – Scottsdale Starfighter

Thu Jan 19, 2012 8:00 am

After a short visit with Chris I moved onto my next objective. I was leaving Phoenix, with the next stop being quite a bit further north in Scottsdale…

…the destination was of course Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where they have a nicely preserved ex-NASA Starfighter displayed.

Day 7 – End of the Day

Thu Jan 19, 2012 8:02 am

From Scottsdale I continued north along route 89 to the I-40 then east to Bellemont…
ImageAerial Visuals - Location Dossier - Camp Navajo, Flagstaff, Arizona, United States - UH-1
…the idea was of course to photograph the UH-1 at Camp Navajo. Unfortunately for me the sign at the entrance indicated visitors were not permitted. Not willing to raise the ire of security I just turned around and left. I got to my hotel in Flagstaff still with plenty of light left in day, however my next stop would be the Planes of Fame in Valle. Since I could not get there before closing time I decided to call it a day and just check in. I figured that was a good idea as the next day would be a marathon drive north to Reno.

I am already working on pictures from my Flagstaff to Reno leg. Hopefully it won’t take me too long to get them posted here. Stay tuned!

You are welcome. I wish I had time for more commentary. It was my first visit to Arizona. Everything was new to me, the scenery was fantastic. Loved the heat. I could have added more comments but I wanted to keep in on subject. I am glad to read you are enjoying this post.

Do you think you are ready for the challenge? Do you think you can keep up with me? It is a multi-day/week trip, with dawn to dusk days, crap hotels, many hours on the road and fast food. Do you really think you are really up to it?

Mike

P.S. Working on day 8 photos right now. Reno pics are in the queue.

The MiGs are the Glendale airport are not part of Hans's collection. The 2 Mohawks are 2 miles from my house and I go by them several times a week, there used to be 4, but they sold 2 off several years ago.

Thanks for correcting me Matt! I moved the two MiGs into their own location dossier at Glendale.
