According to Wayne Coulson, August is the target month for the Philippine Mars to fly to Florida:

Anybody else see the interesting tidbit near the end?

The Philippine Mars should be shipping out to the southern State in August, said Coulson, adding the U.S. aviation museum is investing in a $10-million hangar to house the large tanker.

A hangar large enough to house the Philippine Mars should be big enough to bring at least some of the aircraft sitting outside in out of the weather...

Okay, so April is almost here and last I saw, April 2016 was the target month for getting the Martin Mars moved to Pensacola.

So...

Any news?

An exact date perhaps?

My wife and I want to plan accordingly and I don't want to miss my only opportunity to see one of these things fly.

The most recent info about Philippine Mars's flight is that it will be late summer early fall. That is all the info I've heard lately.

In another thread here, and elsewhere, I think I read that it's off?? Unfortunately I can't find it right now.

This article on Coulson's recently announced $25,000 Hawaii Mars flight experience, mentions near the end that the deal to send the Philippine Mars to Pensacola has fallen through and is not happening.

No other details regarding that, and I have not heard anything else.

If this is true, glad I will see the Hawaii Mars at Oshkosh next month.

When the Mars ever makes it to Pensacola, the Navy has to somehow find a way to build a hangar for it. Because it is a high wing and sits so high off the ground , not too much floor space is lost in the hangar. Many airplanes can be parked underneath it, near it, and the inside can be used for a walking tour and displays. Even the tail sits quite high.

Supposedly the Navy was in the process of building another hanger like the one they built for the Marlin. Granted, I would have preferred it if they kept everything on the floor akin to the Air Force, as Turtle and Que Sera are awfully important to be hanging from the ceiling. That said, I really can't complain as the Navy does not have a good track record in taking care of its larger aircraft.

Rumor was that the Navy intends to bring inside the rest of it's outdoor collection, with the Privateer being somewhat high on that list - as it should. I've said before that I would love for the Martin Mariner to be brought from Tucson to Pensacola for display, but then again, the people in Tucson are probably taking much better care of it then the Navy would.

I sincerely hope that that is not why the Martin Mars is staying in Canada. After all the Caroline Mars was destroyed by being left out in the elements so I can understand Coulson's cautiousness - if that is the case. If it stays in Canada I will be truly disappointed. My wife and I were planning to be there for when it arrived as we do not have the money to go to Oshkosh like all you fine folks. Seeing it come into Pensacola was probably as close as we were going to get to seeing one fly.

That is unless the rumors of Kermit Weeks buying one comes true...

If the Philippine Mars cannot come to Pensacola, I would like to see it either fly to Polk City, FL to Kermit Weeks' place or to the Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum in Baltimore. Both would be good places for it to end up. If Kermit got the Mars, it would be great to see it keep flying if possible, but that might be a stretch.
