I hope those birds are saved someday! Even the -34.

Those pictures were too painful to look at. :vom:

B29Gunner, if you still have the contact information to the owner of the "museum" could you PM it to me. I will pass it on to the people at MAPS who will be going down to get the F-84. Also could you post any more pictures you have of the F-84? Thanks. I think we already have a F-84F canopy so that shouldn't be to bad. Is the cockpit gutted, or just in bad shape from the elements?

Hi Guys,

Was wondering about the old Convair in the photo's. It looks in fairly sad shape. But it also reminds me very much of the old T-29/CV-240 we had at the Tech College I went to for my FAA Licenses. Anyone know what kind of shape the thing is in ? Or has time and weather taken their toll on the airframe to the point where the spars are corroded ? I have worked on many Convair vairiants....-240/-340/-440/-580 and I am all too aware of how bad corrosion gets into these old girls.

By the way...it was the Exhaust Augmentor tubes that caught my eye on this one.

Paul

Sorry I dont have any more pics of the F-84. I didnt attempt to climb up to the cockpit, as I'd already had my helping of Pigeon sh*t for the day! But I would venture to say that it probably looks very much like the H-34 cockpit. Bring your MOPP 4 gear!

Here you go Paul!

The Convair was by far the most complete bird there, from what I could see on the outside anyway. But of course it has a lot of issues as well, and I have no idea what it looks like on the inside. Some guy did take pictures of the interior once, I'll see if I can find them.

A couple bad pics of the Convair...

she doesn't look a complete lost cause though? surely she can be rebuilt and form a base for a transport museum or such?

A C-124? I don’t recall seeing that when I was there about five years previous.
