This could become a bit confusing. I have time setter. I'm just looking out for the best price/quality camera and have time until January/February 2005. For now, I'm still playing with my minolta 7hi. So if you want to promote nikon, you can. Give a example of why you would prefer the Nikon over the Canon. Which nikon type is the best? I am open minded you see.

I guess it comes down to a VERY slight technical and quality advantage of the Nikon over the Canon at each tear of the range. The Base model Canon 300D is anm awsome camera in most peoples hands , it is simple to use and technically advanced and very well regarded by the Technical press - recieving great reviews. It does however have a slightly "plastic" feel to it as it is constructed from composites. The Nikon D70 is also highly regarded technically and has slightly more "style " about it , having a more "solid" feel to it being based I believe on an alloy chassis as opposed to the Canon "plastic" body.

Most of the technical reviews I have read find it hard to split the two on quality of the images or rate the Canon slightly ahead. It is interesting that the CCD system in the Canon is the same as the much more expensive 10D whilst having a less sophisticated auto focus system and say the image quality is identical.

The upper range of Nikons are VERY expensive and are really more suited to professionals .

So in the end there seemed very little to choose between the Canon or the Nikon and I went for the Canon because it felt better in my hand and was a little lighter to me and lastly the lower price allowed me to buy a better telephoto lens..

At the end of the day I don't think you will be able to percieve the difference in the images you take.

Thanks Setter to share that. I will look for some reviews on the net about oth canon and nikon cameras. When the time comes, I'm shure that I'll pick a good camera to fill my needs.
