I see a lot of people's points, but the footage of Lefty flying his Mustang and than landing and taxiing up to his front yard is priceless...that was worth any of the, very few IMO, bad parts of the tape.

Albert, re your post, pretty clever for a conservative. However, it is obvious that even God really wants us to go left. Think of the old seafaring saying "Any port in a storm!" You never heard of any starbord in a storm did you? Also if you are a sport pilot or a keen observer of airshows, you could easily notice that the vast majority of pilots prefer to do rolls to the left, hammerheads to the left and majority of landing patterns are to the left. There is a famous rich golfer, as well as noted Warbird pilot, both known as "Lefty". I don't know of any similar ones called righty. Glad I could enlighten you!

I just got this the other day due to the tip in this thread and just watched it. I thought it was fantastic. Lots of cool airshow and air-to-air stuff as well as some interviews of some of the CAF founders. I liked the stationary B-17 on the taxiway with the power up and the tail in the air!

I didn't think the political stuff detracted at all. After all, the mission of most warbird museums is to inform the public of the sacrifices made by the veterans.

I'd just like to clarify about the mention before about the CAF's name change from Confederate to Commemorative. No one had said anything about the name being racist. The organization proposed the name change and the members agreed (by vote at Midland). There was a trend of less corperate sponsors and the organization has and will benefit greatly from the name change. There were some old timers in the bunch that were adamantly against the change, but its just a name, doesnt change the mission. Just thought I'd throw this in so people understood the reason for the change and it was not because it was racist, it was just a change that needed to happen.

Keep em Flying

Me109, Your info on the name change is the not what I understood. When the idea of the name change was brought up, I, like many members asked what the deal was. I was distinctly told by a numbe of people both members and staff that the reason for the change was that new corporate sponsors objected to any term that could be interpreted as rascist. We knew we weren't racist as an organization, but donors did not want any possiblle negative interpretation. I certainly didn't make this explanation up. If I am wrong, why do you think a name that we had for years was changed? Anyway, in the long run it may be positive and it's good that we kept the same initials.

Ok, I missunderstood you in the beginning. I had thought that you were saying people were saying our organization was getting a racist reputation because of the name, but you are in fact correct :D . The name change was brought about as a result of a couple corperate donors saying "We'd love to give money but we just can't put our name on a check that has confederate on it".

Sorry for the missunderstanding.
Taylor

Me109, Thanks! I have a son 21 and one 23, they know almost everything so I don't get to hear a young person say that I'm right very often! Made my day! Also I can't remember the last time I have heard a Republican say they were mistaken. Hey, I like your Duck and you J-3 on the photo site. There is a co that does Duck rides in Austin, they pick up at downtown hotels, etc. and go into Lake Austin. Unfortuanely the turned over and had a fatality a year or so ago. Do you ever get yours wet? I think you said you were 17, any idea of college? If you went to UT and brought the Duck you'd be the most popular guy about town!

That was a bow to the crowd. Nothing like a modest B-17! Randy Sohn gave us the low down on that manuver and used to do in Miss Angela when she was kept here in the Tin Cities.

Mr. Greenwood,
HAHA yes I would be popular at UT, but I am looking mainly at West Point and Rice. I am still a junior so I have another year, but as of now those are my top two. As for the Duck Tour Co. in Austin, it does sell rides etc. but they arent really Ducks (darn false advertising!) They are a 1950-60's made british amphibious vehicle called the Stelwart (spelling?), but nonetheless they are a fun ride!

Taylor, me boy, have you ever seen the girls at Rice? And they got all those people that have nothing better to do than study. I have friend that went there on a basetball scholarship, he gradualted but it almost killed him. His roomate almost had a breakdown when he made a C on a test. In his entire previous school career he had never even made a B! That ain't normal. It'd be like having a warbird that never leaked a drop of oil. I do like to get down to Rice every other year about Oct. 6 for the annual bar-b-q the bird day. This year Texas 52-7, I think. Do they have girls at West Point? Sounds a little like Aggieland except with cold weather.
