I think they are missing a P-40!

The plan was to sell the P-51D currently being restored.
The last project hopefully will be a F6F

Ah, YUP, that is me! :D Great Folks to work with. They wanted everything "Just So"! If they are keeping that same eye to detail on the rebuild, it will be a VERY NICE AC! Of corse, with Dottie being a real VET, that comes with a heavy responsibility to retain history while making her a safe flyer. Glad I'm not making those decisions!

Shepsair, Holedigger and all who have contributed -thanks, this is a really great thread. Thanks for the heads-up on the newsletters, they are very interesting and informative. Dottie Mae will really be something to see.

Couple of questions:

Any other 9th AF combat veteran aircraft airworthy? The 9th holds a special place for me.

I didn't realize there were any F6F airframes left to restore except for the remnants from that island off California and whats left of Little Nugget. Are other Hellcats still out there?

There are a bunch or parts in Colorado from some target drone wrecks. Currently for sale. Check Trade-A-Plane or search WIX within the past month or so.

Dotti Mae is the only known P47 veteran from with the the 8th or 9th AF. Not sure if there is any P51's from 9th AF - most seem to be from the 8th.

Supposedly four Hellcats were lost in Lake Michigan though nothing found on the other three. Thought to have been lost at shallow depths and recovered by hard hat divers during WWII.

regards

Mark

I wish our FG-1D could have this kind of attention lavished onto her. Just takes some money and some guys willing to do top of the line work.

There is a Hellcat at Kermit Weeks place. It is in his restoration hanger. Looks like it had been there a while and not being worked on. Talked with one of the restoration mechanics for a while and he stated they will work on something, then Kermit will change his mind and want a different aircraft to be put to the front of the list for restoration. Then he will change his mind again and something else will be number one. Kermit has a lot of aircraft on site in the back buildings, waiting for restoration. I know there is a Tigercat, a P-38 and what I believe to be an SBD. The -38 was in one corner of the restoration hanger area. The SBD and Tigercat were found by just looking in one storage building, with many other airframes/items. Would love permission to just walk through all his storage buildings and look around :)

This information is back to 2007 on a family trip to Florida, not sure of its current status.
