This has lead to the question of whether it's a good idea to take an old F-15 across the Atlantic, as they only have 2 engines and are apparently quite valuable.

They use Lakenheath F-15's. Or at least they did last time.

Yes, but they still have to get them to Lakenheath.

Very Interesting blurb on the web page regarding the sale and the fact that they received a record offer for her. It just proves what I have heard in the warbrid community from Day ONE - "Don't get attached to nothin cause its all for sale for the right price."

Will Steve Hinton still be the only person flying her?

At this time he was one of the few (if not the only one) who are current and qualified to fly the P-38.

He'll be busy at the Chino display then if he has to fly all 3 at the same time.

But if there's anybody who can fly 3 at a time, my money'd be on Hinton ...

There is someone else that flies the P-38 from POF. I saw him at CAK last year.

As of a few years ago, Mike DeMarini (sp?)--a "Chino kid" from way back flies their P-38 "Porky". I flew 767s with him at Delta Air Lines before he retired. When I asked him what he got to fly at PoF, he said, "name it" and the P-38 was among the many WWII warbirds he flew regularly during the air show season...lucky duck!

I understand that Kevin Eldredge flew Skidoo at the POF 50th anniversary event last January. I don't doubt they have a couple other pilots current on the 38. My guess is Hinton will fly GG at the May show and bdk has already told us who will be flying the 3rd 38 but I forget his name.

I posted this yesterday on this thread.
Jeff Harris told me the other day that they did the taxi tests on their P-38 with minor squawks. Steve Hinton is to make the first flight soon, put 10 hours on it then type Jeff who'll fly it in the show

It seems like only yesterday that they had three P-38's up at the same show. :D
