what warbird wrecks would you like to see recovered?

How about the early model B-17 protected by the USFS that keeps getting vandalized for wing attach hardware, the Lake Michigan Birds, and the Champlin TBD before it goes any further back to the elements. And the remaining B-29 and Hellcat parts at China Lake.

The B-17 E sitting up on the ridge called black gap pass in N.G.. Its a builder by todays standards. Besides I need something to be rebuilding in my golden years. :lol:

I can think of several:

1. TBD-1 BuNo 0353 (ex VT-5 during Coral Sea battle) off Miami
2. TBD-1 BuNo 1515 (VT-5, 5-T-6) off Jaluit
3. TBD-1 BuNo 0297 (ex VT-2, 2-T-7; lost with VT-5 as 5-T-7) off Jaluit
4. Any TBD found in the vicinity of Midway... there could be no more hallowed piece of naval aeronautical history

Pulling up an F2A-3 from near Midway would also allow the Navy to do the right thing (ahem) and return the Brewster 239 BW-372 to Finland, where it rightfully belongs.

And yeah, some Luftwaffe stuff would be cool, too... there's tons of stuff in the Baltic, Lake Balaton in Hungary, the Black Sea and so forth which is just waiting for an enterprising team with the funds to get it.

The TBDs should be the priority, though.

glen miller's norseman has to be found first. on a pipe dream, i'd vote for yammamoto's betty, but that is a 1 & a billion shot..... to hot of a potato in regard to history between the u.s., the japanese, & the island nation's government where she rests.

If somebody invents a way for satellites to photograph the ocean floor with the clarity of Google Earth, either Eddie Rickenbacker's B-17D or the B-17C listed as 130 miles off Oahu.

Everything left in the Soplata collection...especially like to have the remains of the B-36! Saw the Lady of the Lake several times in 1982 and she seemed then like she would be a solid project to start out with. Any of the Doolittle Raiders or Flying Tigers in any condition would be priceless!

A He 219 would be cool. And not to forget a lot of Fw 190 D's went missing over the High Venn area during the battle of the Ardennes. Maybe there are some hidden in the peat soil.
