I'd like an F4U-2 and a normal Bidcage Corsair, while we're talking Corsairs Toss in a AU-1.

B-32 would be very nice, even static.

When it comes to Axis Aircraft the list is far too long to even start thinking about let along listing.

But off the top of my head TBDs come to mind, a few for museums and a few to hit the airshows. That would be great! Toss in a few F4F and SBDs and have a Midway Flight.

Tim

Three types of aircraft that have diaspeared entirely from the face of the earth. A Martin Mercator, The Hughes XF-11, and the Republic Rainbow. In my opinion all very beautiful airplanes and all powered by Pratt & Whitney R-4360s Regards Carl

I'll second the nomination of Lanc B.III (Special) ED932/G, lead aircraft on the Dams Raid, scrapped iirc in July 1947, and add a couple...Lanc ED888 "Mike Squared" (the actual missions champ--R5868, the runner-up, was preserved instead); Stirling "MacRobert's Reply"; the DH Sea Hornet that so nearly survived along with the Mossie and Sea Vamp prototypes; F2G Race 94, final R Div Thompson Trophy winner, and her sister ship Race 18 too; all of the ex-IAF B-24s and Tempests that were scrapped-off (for varying reasons) in the 70s; the Irish Seafire IIIs; the only flown TSR2, scrapped at RAF Foulness Island in 1971; the Bloch twin-engined bomber (I forget the type number) that lasted until 1970 in a dump at Gavres, France; the AW Siskin that was inside the Kingston (ON) Armoury as late as 1943; Cam Logan's Halifax Vs and Me262; the North American NA-44 that vanished from 6RD at Trenton in 1947...and on and on it can go...

Geez, how depressing.

exactly what i was thinking, though i think my choice to save (of what they found in japan anyway) would have been one of the turbo charged Ki 100 prototypes (or turbo'd Ki 84 prototypes)(as long as they gave it to me :) )

also definately more british heavy's, more beaufighters and beauforts (DAP built please), more B29's, a whirlwind or 5, all of the prototypes of aircraft never mass produced...

...realy about 10 time mores of everything + multipules of the non existant stuff (all stored properly of course)

At least one Curtiss SBC-3 or -4 Helldiver - a lot of them ended up in tech schools, but none of 'em were saved... also the two shark-fin B-17s at Lowry Field in Colorado.

Now it's nothing to specific, but I would save a deHavilland Mosquito. Probably the fighter version with 4 .303's and the 4 cannons. It's just a gorgeous plane. And what's better than one Merlin? That's right, TWO!

Cheers,

David

Every bird mentioned in this thread..at least 5 examples of each...as well as Republic P-43 Lancer, Vultee P-66 Vanguard, same for all Brewster models.
Go to Finland postwar with a pocket full 'o surplus P-51's and trade 'em out of their Buffalo's...Oh yeah..and P-40Q..Did I forget to mention the Martin-Baker MB 5? Westland Welkin and Whirlwind...

Every version of Napier Sabre Typhoon and Tempest. Probably more important than airframes..other than the historic specific..would be to grab up engines, parts, and blueprints. Once you have the engineering blueprints, you can build copies...the hard part is powering it up with the "right" sound and performance. Napier Sabre and Lion, The Bristol sleeve-valvers, Daimler-Benze, Junkers Jumo, Argus, Sakae, Curtiss-Wright, etc...ad naseum.....

An AVG P-40.
