I know it's easy to be cynical and think that the world is enjoying another crash story, but from those of us on WIX who are fellow pilots, involved in warbird restoration, etc... please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you in this loss, and we're grateful to God for the good news of the crew's survival.

Glad to hear everyone got out safe and they are on the mend.
Too bad about the wild fire and loss of the S-2, it was sharp.

I'm glad to hear everyone is OK. So sad about the plane; she was a beauty.

Received the same e-mail from the CAF, reference the crash; you guys have already posted more details than I have. Terrible news to lose another one, but great news of no major injuries.

I'm glad everybody made it out "relatively" intact. I'm sorry to see this aircraft (or any other) end in this fashion.

Dammit, our CAF squadron is flat-out snakebit... the C-60 is still undergoing repairs, and now the S-2 is gone. The one major bit of good news is that no one has perished in these accidents, though.

So now, the ODS has NO flyable aircraft... :( :( :(

CAF CONFIRMS AIRPLANE ACCIDENT
MIDLAND, Texas (May 3, 2007) – The Commemorative Air Force confirms that one of its aircraft, a Grumman US-2B Tracker, crashed during approach at MCAS Cherry Point, N.C., at approximately 2:20 p.m. Eastern time, Thursday, May 3, 2007. The airplane was scheduled to appear on static display at the MCAS Cherry Point Air Show scheduled for this weekend.

There were five people on board the plane. Four were taken to local hospitals for evaluation. A fifth was transferred to an area hospital, according to local authorities.

The Tracker was the first purpose-built antisubmarine warfare aircraft, combining both detection and weaponry in a single airframe to enter service with the Navy. This particular plane was donated to the Commemorative Air Force in 2002

Man I hate to hear about this.

My thoughts an prayers are with all involved; especially for a speedy recovery. Thank God all were able to escape.

It's a shame about the Tracker, it was a beautiful bird.

Very glad that all made it out okay from the downed Tracker. I Pray for the speedy recovery of all injured.

A beautiful airplane, the Tracker will be greatly missed by the flying warbird world. I was fortunate enough to see it at Thunder Over Michigan last year and at the Winston-Salem, NC air show in September 2005.

Robbie

Update on the S-2 Tracker crew

At this time it is our understanding that three of the crew have been released from the hospital; two others remained hospitalized for surgery. We have been told that the condition of the most seriously-injured has been upgraded from critical to serious. We will forward more information when we can. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
